LinkedIn’s Great Slideshare Presentation

How is that job search coming along?

I am sure you’ve heard the buzz—LinkedIn has become the #1 social media tool to professionally network, gain job search leads and penetrate the hidden job market. Mmm-hmm, glad you are aware!

Now what can you do to stand out from the crowd of executives and job seekers who have flocked to LinkedIn with the same idea as you? Many, many things can be done—but today, I am sharing with you the idea of incorporating a SlideShare presentation into your LinkedIn profile! Especially since SlideShare and LinkedIn have married!

My clients LOVE LinkedIn because they can conduct a very successful, stealth job search campaign— keeping them safe from their current employer’s wrath!

I LOVE LinkedIn because it has amazing features to help me, help my clients stand out by strengthening their online brand.

I have a very interesting story to share with you about one of my clients who (yes, with my support) made a successful career transition into a very difficult market (she is even relocating to a new state) by networking via LinkedIn—very strategically, I must add!

However, I will leave that story for another day. (Soon. I promise)  Today, I’d like to bring your attention to how you can use SlideShare on LinkedIn and attract more power players into your network and win an introduction to their network!

Facebook and Your Career

Excuse me. Come again? Are you kidding? What is the first thing you do when you want more
information about ANY topic? You Google it. Simply put, Facebook can influence your online brand, your digital reputation, your corporate identity, and ultimately your employability.

The most important thing you must embrace is that EMPLOYERS WILL ABSOLUTELY GOOGLE YOU. If you have a name, you are Googleble! If you have any social networking account, even if just one—you are definitely Googleble, which means your reputation is searchable. So, now that we established this, what do you do with that
information? Read more entry more Facebook and Your Career

From The Ashes of VisualCV.com Grows Your Domain

What the closure of a site like VisualCV.com teaches us is that you MUST be at the helm of your digital brand’s development, navigation, and web hosting!

Have you heard? VisualCV.com will cease operations on 12/30/2011! This serves to reinforce what I have been advocating–you need to own your domain ASAP.com!

Everyone, especially careerist with defined personal brands and business owners should own their domain name and web hosting account. Even if you have no idea what to do with your domain name yet or where to host it—register it right away.  Save it. You can work the development and hosting details out later.

All those job seekers who invested time in developing their self-marketing dossiers/resumes and uploaded to VisualCV.com will need to find a new home for their portfolios, pictures, references, CVs, and testimonials. Worse yet, the links they shared with possible employers and clients will soon be dead links! The connections they made via that site will need to be notified of their new home. Had they their own domain and web space– this would not be an issue. Read more entry more From The Ashes of VisualCV.com Grows Your Domain

The Power of Your Tweets

The Power of Your TweetsThe value of your tweets. Now that you have set up your Twitter account, what do you tweet in order to get closer to an actual job lead? There are many steps you can take to job search via Twitter but in this blog post I will focus on your tweets’ content because a great tweet can propel you closer to a job — a bad tweet can help you lose the job you currently have…AND QUICKLY!

Micro blogging as part of your job search toolkit. Project and strengthen your professionalism, brand, and expertise. If you provide valuable and spot-on content, you will gain influential followers. If your Twitter “followers” find your content useful and insightful, they may recommend others follow you or better yet (RT) re-tweet you, helping you expand your reach and networking possibilities.
