Facebook and Your Career
Excuse me. Come again? Are you kidding? What is the first thing you do when you want more
information about ANY topic? You Google it. Simply put, Facebook can influence your online brand, your digital reputation, your corporate identity, and ultimately your employability.
The most important thing you must embrace is that EMPLOYERS WILL ABSOLUTELY GOOGLE YOU. If you have a name, you are Googleble! If you have any social networking account, even if just one—you are definitely Googleble, which means your reputation is searchable. So, now that we established this, what do you do with that

From The Ashes of VisualCV.com Grows Your Domain
What the closure of a site like VisualCV.com teaches us is that you MUST be at the helm of your digital brand’s development, navigation, and web hosting!
Have you heard? VisualCV.com will cease operations on 12/30/2011! This serves to reinforce what I have been advocating–you need to own your domain ASAP.com!

Had they their own domain and web space– this would not be an issue. Read more

There are many steps you can take to job search via Twitter but in this blog post I will focus on your tweets’ content because a great tweet can propel you closer to a job — a bad tweet can help you lose the job you currently have…AND QUICKLY!
Micro blogging as part of your job search toolkit. Project and strengthen your professionalism, brand, and expertise. If you provide valuable and spot-on content, you will gain influential followers. If your Twitter “followers” find your content useful and insightful, they may recommend others follow you or better yet (RT) re-tweet you, helping you expand your reach and networking possibilities.

Part of the Career Collective monthly post series. Please see end of this post.
Social networking sites have dramatically changed the job search ‘game.’ LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Blogs, and Online Career Sites can help you– from the comfort of your home–discover new opportunities and tap into the hidden job market.
Why? Because networking, whether it is performed offline or online, is still the most effective way to find a job. However, building a brand, connecting with professionals in your field, and maintaining those relationships is not as easy as just setting up an account (don’t we wish!?). Adapting best practices so you cultivate a favorable online presence and earn the trust of those in a position to help you is a strategic endeavor. Read more
